TEAM President, Mr Chua Song Fong together with the Hon Treasurer, Mr Wong Kar Wai, Committee Members, Mr Albert Low, Mr Chris Tan, Mr Leonard Chew, and Executive Advisor Mr George Tan visited YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities at his office in Putrajaya.
A productive engagement was held with the DPM involving matters related to the progress of our timber industry. Topics discussed were:
1. Sustainable supply of raw material
– importation and industry tree plantation (ITP)
2. Labour Policy, domestic and foreign
3. Market Access – EUDR and Forced Labour
4. MTIB proposed increase in fees to cover their expenses should be fairly shared by all sectors in the timber industry. As it is, certain export sector in the industry does not contribute to the income of MTIB
5. MPC to consult all sectors of the timber industry instead of flip flop policies on the banning of timber like Rubberwood and other sawn timber species ensuring consistency and fairness towards all stakeholders
6. TEAM’s proposed project in Rantau Panjang to rehabilitate forest of 130 hectares to replant and replace timber species against oil palm, nursery to provide seedlings, was praised and welcomed by the DPM.
TEAM expressed its heartiest gratitude to the DPM for being receptive and supportive.
