Your Association has been informed that the Nordic Ecolabelling Scheme had proposed to list tropical timber as prohibited tree species.  Some of the species involved are:
1. Bintangor
2. Jelutong
3. Kapur
4. Kempas
5. Meranti
6. Merbau
7. Merpauh
8. Nyatoh
9. Seraya
10. Pyinkado
It was understood that a Public Consultation was organized and was opened until 26 April 2019.  This will definitely hamper the growth of our trade should the list be accepted, your Association instantly alerted the Ministry of Primary Industry (MPI), Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), Forestry Department and Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) to work on appropriate response to object the listing of tropical tree species as prohibited species under the scheme.
Your Association is also working closely with overseas trade federations in Europe in getting their views and support in preventing tropical tree species being listed as prohibited under the scheme. Please look out for more updates via e-mail / newsletter / website of your Association in time to come.
The complete list is made available for your reference:
