Mr Chua, the President provided suggestions for improvement of MYTLAS, the excerpt from the event is as follows:
Multiple MYTLAS Required for 1 Consignment
Mr Wong raised the case when different species were involved in one shipment, multiple MYTLAS are required. This had caused confusion to the oversea buyers. MTIB is advised to look into it.
Potential Increase of MYTLAS Fees
Mr Chua and Mr Chris Tan suggested that MTIB should keep the MYTLAS fee at a reasonable and workable level to avoid increasing the burden to the industry and to allow the industry to be more competitive in the international markets.
Way Forward of MYTLAS
“The market demand (for legality assurance) is increasing, EUTR will be replaced by EUDR, and USDR is also in motion beside the current Lacey Act, we cannot think that MYTLAS will be enough for the next 5 years. We have to be competitive or we will lose out to other markets.” was the statement of Mr Chua at the session.
MTIB took note of all the points raised.
